About Me

Hi!

I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Brittney, and I am the founder of Heart & Mind Speech Therapy, LLC. I am a certified speech-language pathologist (SLP) and have been working full time in Early Intervention for three years. I absolutely love this population! I enjoy building relationships with clients’ families and being a part of the exciting, foundational progress clients make at this stage.

Like most others, I was thrown into teletherapy at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. At first, I tried to conduct teletherapy sessions exactly as I had face-to-face sessions, but I quickly found out that this would not work. Clients were not engaged with me on a screen (rightly so, they are toddlers!), parents were stressed, and we were all discouraged. I began to search tirelessly for information and resources to aid in creating effective sessions for my clients and families but had no luck. So what was I to do?… stay discouraged, trudging through sessions the same way I previously had, or maybe just stop sessions all together until face-to-face could resume? No way! I began to research engaging play activities for toddlers and the parent coaching model, and before I knew it, I found myself creating my own early intervention teletherapy session activities. Clients became more engaged, families were participating and expressing interest, and I was encouraged to have a plan that was easily adaptable to many clients. I hope you also find these activities and related resources helpful in planning for teletherapy sessions with your early intervention clients and families!
